		In the Beginning... Murray & Holt was founded in 1957. Here we are in our 55th year. So, how did all this start? Floyd Holt taught school and coached at Bend High from September to June and sold cars for Ward Motor Company in the summer 'break' and weekends. When Doug Ward made the choice to leave the car business and focus on the dairy business, the dealership was closed down. The community of Bend was left with no Pontiac-GMC dealership. Oscar Murray had been a loyal Ward Motor Company customer and had just been awarded a contract to clear the route for the Bonneville power line to be constructed from Canada to Nevada. His 'fleet' had no dealer to service it, so he approached General Motors requesting they put a dealer in Bend. As they had no on the 'hook' they had no promise of filling the empty franchise point. Oscar, as usual, had the solution to the problem. The solution was that he would become the dealer and fulfill every man's dream...buying a car at absolute dealer cost. GM said not so fast. he would have to have an experienced auto person involved in the business. Who better than a part-time salesman school teacher in the person of Floyd Holt? Holt was approached at 1:00pm. Murray introduced himself, proposed a plan, and by 4:00pm they had an agreement...a contract drawn up by the lawyer Duncan McKay. The next day it was off to Portland and by nightfall, there was a new dealership point for Pontiac and GMC in Bend, Oregon. That was a simpler time. The process today would be more like an elephant being born. And the agreement between Murray & Holt was never tested, as there was never a disagreement.
